ABSTRACT:
A switching voltage regulator for regulating line voltage which produces an output proximating that of a linear voltage regulator. The switching voltage regulator includes a linear amplifier which receives a reference signal as well as an output feedback signal and produces an overall feedback signal for utilization. A discrete processor receives the overall feedback signal as well as a feedback from its own switching output signal in order to produce its output switching signal as a pulse strength modulation signal. The pulse strength modulation signal is then used to switch on and off the line voltage in order to produce an intermediate output signal which is then filtered in order to produce the voltage regulated output signal. A feedback processor can be included between the voltage regulated output signal and the linear amplifier and can provide either regular voltage feedback or can also include damping factor feedback.
