ABSTRACT:
The present invention10discloses a protective screen safety guard12that attaches to lamps, heat lamps, or the like18which provides means for both light and heat for living creatures20contained in an aquarium and/or terrarium habitat22. The present invention is a protective screen guard having a screen element12with spaced apart flanged fasteners14for engaging the lip16of a lamp, heat lamp, or the like18. There are three flange members14provided, two of which are permanently affixed to the screen guard12and the third, a removable flange26having a captive (pem-type) fastener28for the securing and removal of the screen guard12from the lip16of a heat lamp18. In a preferred additional embodiment, an opaque deflector plate36is secured between the light bulb30and the screen12. The opaque deflector plate36redirects heat produced by the light bulb30providing improved means to protect an animal. The deflector plate36is secured by means of a screw38that is inserted through an aperture42in the screen12and anchored with a threaded insert44that is affixed to the deflector plate36.
