ABSTRACT:
A system for alloying lead with minor amounts of alloyants which have a higher melting point than, and a lower solid solubility in, lead. The system includes a melting furnace retaining Pb melt at a first temperature, a sealed vessel containing chunks of alloyant-rich material, a heated conduit between the furnace and the vessel for conducting melt to the vessel while heating it to the melting temperature of the material in the vessel, a conduit for returning superheated melt from the vessel to the furnace and a pump for circulating a small portion of the melt from the furnace through the vessel for dissolution of the alloyant into that portion.
