ABSTRACT:
Late differentiation antigens (LDA.sub.1 and LDA.sub.2) expressed by activated helper cells are described. LDA.sub.1 and LDA.sub.2 are membrane proteins recognized by monoclonal antibodies produced by immunizing mice with alloreactive human T cell clones with helper function. LDA.sub.1 and LDA.sub.2 are expressed by helper T cells. LDA.sub.1 monoclonal antibody and LDA.sub.2 monoclonal antibody block T cell enhancement of B cell immunoglobulin production. Thus, LDA.sub.1 and LDA.sub.2 are associated with helper T cell effector function. Methods of diagnosis and therepy based upon LDA.sub.1 and LDA.sub.2 are also described.
