ABSTRACT:
A lap top desk includes a pair of stacked and spaced apart plate-like members which both provide respective work surfaces to a user of the desk, and which are both pivotally and translatably connected so that the user may refer to a portion of the lower member while also keeping all of the upper work surface in sight. Alternatively, the user may choose to pivot the upper member work surface out of sight in order to completely reveal the work surface of the lower member. A dual function strap is provided which when sat upon by the user keeps the desk on the lap, and which also secures the desk in a storage or transportation condition. A flexible arrangement of clamps, and open spaces on the work surfaces allows a user to arrange desk top contents in a variety of utilitarian ways. Provision is also made for variable spacing between the plate-like members so that the desk lower level may accommodate thick or bulky items, or so that the desk may be configured more thinly if only comparatively thin items are to be arranged on the lower level.
