The present invention relates to aLactobacillus reuterivariant from animal sources that inhibits rotavirus infection and other pathogenic microorganisms, as well as being tolerant of gastric and bile acids. Also, this invention relates to a prophylactic and therapeutic composition comprising the same for contributing in many probiotic ways to the host's general health and preventing and treating diseases or conditions associated with rotavirus and other enteric pathogens.
