ABSTRACT:
Junk basket10is provided for collecting debris from a wellbore cleaning operation, and includes a central mandrel14having a throughbore16and an outer shell24defining a generally annular junk space40. The outer shell24may be configured such that the annulus27includes a reduced portion28. Flow holes30in the outer shell are preferably angled substantially upward, and are positioned to discharge fluid to the annulus27. According to a method of the invention, fluid is passed from an upper tubing string, through the central mandrel, into the wellbore and upward through the annulus and past the flow holes, thereby reducing pressure of flow past the well holes to pass fluid from the junk space through the flow holes.
