ABSTRACT:
Blast furnace tuyeres and like hollow-walled cooling devices have one or more water inlet conduits in the wall formed with a terminal constriction so as to discharge cooling water as a high speed jet against the specially contoured inside surface of the nose preferably normal to the tuyere end. The jet impinges on that inside surface at a low angle and the surface is curved to change the direction of the jet preferably by 90.degree. or more, so that the stream is held against the surface to be cooled not only by the force of the jet but also by centrifugal force.
