ABSTRACT:
Alpha-pinene is catalytically isomerized to beta-pinene in the presence of a neutralized alumina-supported mixed metal catalyst. The mixed metal catalyst comprises a Group VIII metal admixed with a Group IB metal on an alumina support, which mixed metal catalyst has been subjected to a neutralization treatment with a salt or hydroxide of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal.
