ABSTRACT:
A method for preparing functionalized polymers formed by anionic polymerization, e.g., polystyrene, polyisoprene, etc., generally comprising the steps of conducting anionic polymerization, contacting the polymer so formed with CO.sub.2 in the presence of a polar diluent, then conducting an ion-exchange reaction between the carbonated polymer product and a hydrocarbon soluble salt.
