A method for providing a telephony service, the method including coupling an interface device directly between a network switch of a public intelligent network and a computer telephony integration server, the network switch being coupled to a service switching function device having service switching functionality; at the interface device, handling call handling messages between the service switching function device and the computer telephony integration server.
