ABSTRACT:
An integral pump and drive shaft assembly in which the pump has a generally cylindrical side wall, a generally vertical back wall, and an impeller is rotatably mounted in the housing by its drive shaft which extends through the back wall of the pump housing. A drive shaft assembly includes a tubular drive shaft housing rigidly secured at one of its ends to the back wall of the pump housing. The drive shaft extends through the shaft housing and is rotatably mounted therein by spaced apart anti-friction bearings which are lubricated by fluid under pressure. The drive shaft assembly also includes a mechanical rotary seal adjacent the pump housing and which prevents water from entering the drive shaft housing from the pump housing. The drive shaft assembly also includes a tubular seal holder located between one set of anti-friction bearings and another fluid seal and the mechanical rotary seal is located between the flexible seal and that one set of anti-friction bearings.
