ABSTRACT:
An input device for improving man-machine interface, for use in connection with a data processing system such as a computer, is disclosed. The input device provides a more direct and natural relationship between the control movements of an operator and the output from the data processing system. The input device according to one embodiment of the present invention includes a fluid medium20sealed inside a chamber10, a control movement transmission mechanism50connected to the chamber10, a control data generating device60which monitors and converts the operation of the inflow and outflow control mechanism into electrical signals, a transmission circuit70for transmitting the signals output by the control data generating device60to a computer100, a fluid flow variable restriction device40able to variably control the volume of fluid flowing through the restrictor pipe30, and a receiver circuit80capable of driving the fluid flow variable restriction device40based on control response signals output from the computer100. The fluid medium20flows into and out of the chamber10through the restrictor pipe30. The mechanism operates in a manner as to control the fluid flow into and out of the chamber10through the restrictor pipe30. The fluid flow condition is generated by operator-induced volume changes in the chamber10.
