ABSTRACT:
The invention relates to an inorganic filter element comprising:
a rigid inorganic porous support; and
channels classifiable into n categories where n.gtoreq.2, with all of the channels in each category having identical right cross-section, identical hydraulic diameter, and identical equivalent diameter, the shapes of the right cross-sections of the channels differing between categories.
According to the invention, the channels of the various categories have:
hydraulic diameters such that the ratios between any two hydraulic diameters lie in the range 0.75 to 1.3;
right cross-sectional areas such that the ratios between any two right cross-sectional areas lie in the range 0.75 to 1.3; and
equivalent diameters such that the ratio of the equivalent diameter over the hydraulic diameter of each channel is less than or equal to 2.
