ABSTRACT:
An inkjet drop ejection apparatus comprising:a chamber with a nozzle;an elongate ink inlet channel for fluid communication with an ink supply; and,an actuator with associated drive circuitry for ejecting drops of ink through the nozzle; wherein, the longitudinal axis of the ink supply channel is substantially parallel to the trajectory of the ejected drops of ink.If the ink supply channel is parallel with the direction of ink ejection, nozzle packing density on the printhead can be significantly increased. The ink can be supplied from the ‘back’ surface of the wafer, thereby removing the need for ink feed channels beside the chambers. This provides more room for the power and print data to be connected to each nozzle along the front surface of the wafer. Furthermore, ink supply channels leading directly to the nozzles promote a rapid ink refill rate under the action of the nozzle meniscus surface tension.
