ABSTRACT:
An infrared printing ink. The printing ink can be read with illumination by a near IR light source and an IR detector. The ink includes a pigment, a vehicle, and a solvent. The infrared ink pigment is silicon (IV) 2,3-naphthalocyanine bis((R.sub.1)(R.sub.2)(R.sub.3)-silyloxide) wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are selected from the group, consisting of an alkyl group, at least one aliphatic cyclic group and at least one aromatic ring. The present inks are produced by mixing the pigment with the solvent to form a colorant solution which is then stirred with the vehicle to form an ink paste.
