ABSTRACT:
An infrared imaging system includes a film of dichroic [liquid crystal] material coated on a membrane, first means for forming an infrared image on the membrane, second means for illuminating the membrane with visible light, and third means for detecting variations in elliptical polarization of the light after reflection from or transmission through the membrane to provide a visible image.
