An indirectly heated cathode for gas discharge tube C1comprises a heater1,a double coil2,a plate member3,and a metal oxide10.An electrical insulating layer4is formed on the surface of heater1.Heater1is disposed at the inner side of double coil2.Plate member3is disposed along the length direction of double coil2at the inner side of double coil2,which is to be the discharge surface side, and is electrically connected to double coil2.Also, plate member3is grounded by being connected to the ground terminal of heater1.Metal oxide10is held by double coil2and disposed to be in contact with plate member3.Metal oxide10is in contact with double coil2.
