ABSTRACT:
A prepreg formulation comprising prepreg filament fibers unidirectionally aligned, and/or woven and nonwoven fibrics, a thermosetting matrix resin and thin surface layers of extremely fine fibers of a thermoformable polymer having at least one of a T.sup.m or T.sup.g greater than about 300.degree. C. or no T.sup.m or T.sub.g and a decomposition temperature greater than about 300.degree. C. The preferred matrix resin is a blend of a thermosetting epoxy resin and an amorphous thermoplastic polymer that has a T.sub.g greater than about 195.degree. C. The invention contemplates the addition of small amounts of a Cr(III) complex and inorganic whiskers.
