ABSTRACT:
A porous polymer containing immobilized enzymes or bacteria cells is prepared by forming a mixture of enzymes or bacteria cells and a monomer having the formulae ##STR1## wherein X is hydrogen or methyl; R is --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --, ##STR2## or --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --, R' is alkyl or hydrogen; n is integer of 2 or more and m is integer of 4 or more, or mixture of such monomers; and then polymerizing or copolymerizing the monomer(s) in the mixture at a temperature of less than 0.degree. C. by means of ionizing radiation.
