ABSTRACT:
This invention relates to a method for regulating the growth of crop plants by applying to the foliage, roots, stems, seeds or to soil in which the crop plants are grown, an effective plant growth regulating amount of an imidazolinyl benzamide having the structure: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is alkyl C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 ; R.sub.2 is alkyl C.sub.1 -C.sub.6, cycloalkyl C.sub.3 -C.sub.6, alkenyl C.sub.2 -C.sub.4, phenyl, halophenyl or benzyl; and when R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are taken together with the carbon to which they are attached they may form cycloalkyl C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 optionally substituted with methyl; R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 each individually represent hydrogen, alkyl C.sub.1 -C.sub.4, alkenyl C.sub.3 -C.sub.5, alkynyl C.sub.3 -C.sub.5, or benzyl; and when R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 represent different substituents, the optical isomers thereof.
