The present invention relates to novel imidazole alkaloid compounds that have been isolated as a form of chloride salt from a root extract ofLepidium meyeniiWalp, with the common name Maca, and identified below as 1,3-bis(phenylmethyl)-4,5-dimethyl-1H-imidazlium chloride and 1,3-bis(phenylmethyl)-2,4,5-trimethyl-1H-imidazlium chloride, compounds (1) and (2), respectively.The present invention further relates to the use of these novel compounds (1) and (2) to treat proliferative diseases, such as but not limited to cancer.
