For replacing a cassette9in an automatic loader section4,an operation of retracting the cassette9to a cassette accommodation section3is performed in parallel with an operation of inserting a new cassette9from the cassette accommodation section3to the automatic loader section4.Accordingly, the time required by the automatic loader section4for the cassette replacement operation is the same as the longer time among the time for retracting the cassette and the time for inserting the cassette. Thus, the time in which the automatic loader section4must stop the transportation of the image recording materials can be shortened.
