An image display device10,having two substrates11and12,at least one of which is transparent; and display particles21and22enclosed in the powder form between the substrates, the display particles being moved under an electric field generated between the substrates so that an image is displayed, wherein metal oxide fine particles1surface-treated with at least one processing agent selected from the group consisting of silane-coupling agents and silicone oils are adhered to at least one substrate surface20aand/or20bof the surfaces in contact with the display particles in a gap18between the substrates.
