Illumination unit UT is used for the illumination of an LCD panel1from the rear side of the LCD panel1. Illumination unit UT is provided with light source2, rear cover6to cover light source2and reflective sheet5coated on an inner surface of rear cover6. Concretely, reflective sheet5is disposed to have clearance “A” with respect to rear cover6. Alternatively, reflective sheet5is divided into a plurality of pieces, so that clearance “A” is defined between at least one piece5A of reflective sheet5and rear cover6.
