ABSTRACT:
In an internal combustion engine an ignition enhancement and regulating chamber in fluid-flow communication with a principal combustion chamber of the engine through a restricted passage serving as a thermal isolater. The ignition enhancement chamber is characterized by a high surface area-to-volume ratio augmented by providing a heat retentive packing in the chamber, whereby the general operating efficiency of the engine is improved, and effective utilization of lean fuel mixtures is rendered feasible.
