At least one embodiment of the inventive technology focuses on new methods and apparatus relative to generation of a custody and control form that finds application in drug use or clinical testing, among other fields. At least one embodiment of another aspect of the inventive technology focuses on methods and apparatus relative to an encrypted, character-based identifier usable to adequately identify an event (a purchase, e.g.), an object (a product purchased, e.g.) or substance (a specimen collected from an individual for drug testing or clinical testing); in a preferred embodiment, this identifier is based on a time and entity associated with the event, object or substance to be identified.
