A process for the preparation of the sulphone of the formula ##STR1## consists in reductive cleavage of azo/azoxy dyestuffs of the formula ##STR2## where D is a radical of a diazo component from the benzene or naphthalene series.
The invention also relates to the azo/azoxy dyestuffs mentioned.
