ABSTRACT:
New compounds including bis-.beta.-hydroxy ethyl bibenzoate containing less than 2.5%, and preferably less than 1%, diethylene glycol and a process for the production of the bis-.beta.-hydroxy ethyl bibenzoate by the condensation of 4,4'-biphenyl dicarboxylic acid and ethylene glycol at low temperature and pressure in the presence of a catalyst are disclosed. Use of the compounds to produce polyesters is also disclosed.
