ABSTRACT:
A process for the hydrogenation of butadienepolyperoxide in a suitable solvent, e.g., tetrahydrofuran, at temperatures of 75.degree.-110.degree. C. and pressure above 2000 psia by contacting the butadienepolyperoxide and hydrogen in the presence of metallic silver. The process produces 1-butene-3,4-diol and 2-butene-1,4-diol.
