ABSTRACT:
Dicyclopentadiene is selectively and substantially hydroformylated to its dimethanolic derivatives by a process comprising contacting dicyclopentadiene with a gaseous mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen at a temperature of at least about 100.degree. C. and a pressure of at least about 1,000 psig in the presence of a catalytic amount of a catalyst consisting essentially of a rhodium-cobalt bimetallic cluster, such as Rh.sub.2 Co.sub.2 CO.sub.12, supported on an amine resin, such as DOWEX.RTM. MWA-1.
