ABSTRACT:
A hydraulic arrangement is described comprising a lifting cylinder10for a lifting arm12pivotably mounted on a vehicle. A hose22selectively connects a working chamber10aof the lifting cylinder10to a supply16and a return18line to raise and lower the lifting arm, respectively. A safety check valve46is connected between the hose22and the working chamber10ato maintain the working chamber under pressure and avoid collapse of the lifting arm12in the event of rupturing of the hose22. An accumulator70is connectable to the working chamber10of the lifting cylinder10by way of the safety check valve46to provide ride control. A solenoid50overrides the operation of the safety check valve46while the hose22is isolated from both the supply16and the return18line to allow fluid to flow in both directions between the accumulator70and the working chamber10ato cause the lifting cylinder to act as a spring supporting the weight of the lifting arm. A pressure switch82prevents overriding of the operation of the safety check valve46if the pressure in the hose22should drop below a threshold.
