ABSTRACT:
A metallic or plastic nipple which has an annular external recess adjacent a circumferentially complete annular retaining rib can be separably connected to an end portion of a flexible hose by a coupling employing a sleeve having a tubular section which is receivable in the end portion of the hose. The sleeve is further porvided with a set of elastic prongs which slope toward the axis of the sleeve and extend into the recess adjacent the retaining rib when the nipple is inserted into the sleeve. A permanently deformable or repeatedly expansible and contractible discrete clamping member is applied around the end portion of the hose to maintain such end portion in sealing engagement with the tubular section of the sleeve. The prongs can be integral with the tubular section or with a second section of the sleeve. The second section is form-lockingly or otherwise affixed to the tubular section. The inner diameter of that portion of the tubular section which is introduced into the hose is at least slightly larger than the maximum diameter of the retaining rib. One or more O-rings or otherwise configurated annular sealing elements are interposed between the sleeve and the nipple.
