ABSTRACT:
Honeycomb removal comprises directing a nozzle at the surface of a substrate at an angle of less than about 90° such that the water will strike the substrate at the base of the honeycomb, parallel to the direction of the ribbon which forms the honeycomb structure. Water then passes through the nozzle and through the orifice at a pressure and flow rate sufficient to remove the honeycomb and preferably the underlying braze from the substrate surface. Relative motion is created between the substrate and the nozzle such that the water stream advances to an area which honeycomb has not been removed with the stream continually being directed at the base of the honeycomb.
