ABSTRACT:
A method of analyzing the structure of a medium particularly useful in seismic prospecting, by generating seismic data represented by recorded traces corresponding to a plurality of source and receivers distributed according to a homeomorphic distribution with respect to predetermined central points in a manner providing predetermined parameters and one-to-one mapping of each element of a target object into an element of its homeomorphic image. A gather of corrected traces is formed and stacked to obtain stacked wavefield characteristics as functions of the time of registration of the data on a predetermined central trace. The stacked wavefield characteristics for a plurality of central traces, and the mentioned predetermined parameters, are then utilized for determining the structure of the medium.
