A dialysis membrane comprising a plurality of polyvinyl alcohol hollow fibers of substantially homogeneous structure having a degree of orientation (.pi.) in the range of 60% .ltoreq. .pi. .ltoreq. 98% and a degree of swelling (.zeta.) in the range of 1.05 .ltoreq. .pi. .ltoreq. 1.80 times.
