ABSTRACT:
The present invention describesHistoplasmosis capsulatumcatalase A and catalase P nucleic acid and protein sequences as reagents for the detection ofH. capsulatuminfection. Specifically, the invention describes intron sequences from theH. capsulatumcatalase A (CATA) and catalase P (CATP) genes which can be used for hybridization and PCR based detection ofH. capsulatuminfection. In another embodiment, assays forH. capsulatumcatalase P or catalase A polypeptides are used as diagnostic tests forH. capsulatuminfection and histoplasmosis, respectively. Also described is the differentiation ofH. capsulatumfromBlastomyces dermititidisbased on aH. capsulatumcatalase P PCR based assay.
