The hinge device includes a housing (30), a cam (60), a cam follower (40) to interact with the cam, and a resilient member (80). The housing contains the cam, cam follower and resilient member. The cam moves linearly, and the cam follower rotates. The cam has a peak (76), a valley (77), and a straight line section (78) in which the cam follower holds its position.
