ABSTRACT:
A universal electrical connector particularly adaptable for terminus applications of high voltage cables. The insulative body portions of the connector employ a combination of engaging primary and secondary tapers. One body portion represents a plug member and the other body portion represents a socket member. Each body portion taper is a frusto-conical contour. The primary set of mating plug and socket tapers constitute nonlocking mating tapers and the secondary set of mating plug and socket surfaces constitute holding tapers. These engaging tapered surfaces together provide an interference fit upon plug and socket engagement. The double taper interference fit of the engaging surfaces provides high electrical integrity upon plug and socket engagement, but minimal disconnecting frictional encounter upon plug and socket disengagement.
Each connector body portion has perimetric resilient flange. The engagement and securement of these flanges provides environmental sealing.
