ABSTRACT:
A system and method for lubricating conveyor chains, particularly with high temperature synthetic lubricants for use in ovens, by dispensing discrete shots of fluid onto the pin areas of the chains to lubricate only the pins and bushings. A check valve, preferably included in a metered shot valve, is positioned sufficiently close to the chain to accurately dispense and place the measured shot onto the point of the chain at which the lubricant is needed. A sensor detects the presence of the pins at a dispensing outlet and signals a controller, which energizes an on/off valve, preferably a direct current solenoid valve, at which fluid is supplied at constant pressure. The check valve opens with the on/off valve and closes in time to define the size of the metered shot. The controller causes the dispensing to occur on every one of a predetermined number of pins during each chain revolution with different pins lubricated on different revolutions until all are lubricated.
