A high pressure fuel supply apparatus6having: a plunger161reciprocating and sliding in a sleeve160of a high pressure fuel pump16so as to form a fuel pressurizing chamber163between the plunger161and the sleeve160to thereby discharge pressurized fuel; a tappet164reciprocated while abutting against the plunger161; and a cam100abutting against the tappet164so as to reciprocate the tappet164and the plunger161; wherein the tappet164has a recess portion164aformed near a central portion of an abutment surface of the tappet164against the plunger161.
