ABSTRACT:
Rylenetetracarboximides of the general formula Iin which the variables are defined as follows:R are identical or different radicals: hydrogen; alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or hetaryl, each substituted if desired;R′ are identical or different radicals: hydrogen; aryloxy, arylthio, hetaryloxy or hetarylthio, each substituted if desired;n is 1 or 2,and also a process for preparing the rylenetetracarboximides I and their use for coloring high molecular weight organic and inorganic materials, for preparing aqueous polymer dispersions which absorb in the near infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum, for producing markings and inscriptions which absorb infrared light and are invisible to the human eye, as infrared absorbers for heat management, as IR laser beam-absorbing materials in fusion treatment of plastics parts, and also as active components in photovoltaics.
