Crystalline hexaamminealuminum iodide monoammoniate is characterized by certain X-ray diffraction lines (CuK.alpha.) of the 15 strongest lines in order of decreasing intensity. Single crystals of hexaamminealuminum iodide monoammoniate crystallize in the space group Pmn2.sub.1 with the lattice constants
