ABSTRACT:
A helical scan type tape recording reproducing apparatus comprises a drum assembly on which a tape is obliquely wound. The drum assembly includes coaxially mounted, vertically spaced apart drums, wherein at least the upper drum is truncated along a vertical flat plane into the shape of a part-cylindrical form. The arrangement is such that when the apparatus is in a standby condition the straight edge side of the part-cylindrical drum is positioned in close proximity to and in parallel with a section of a cassette tape that extends through a recess formed in the cassette and when the apparatus is activated the part-cylindrical drum is rotated 180.degree. turn so that it partially enters the recess of the cassette.
