ABSTRACT:
An automotive seat assembly10is provided, including a primary seat structure12having a seatbase portion14and a seatback portion16. The present invention further includes a headrest support assembly26including an upper headrest support section28and a lower headrest support section30rotatable about a headrest pivot point34positioned between the upper headrest support section28and the lower headrest support section30. An energy absorbing deformable plate40is mounted to the lower headrest support section30at an upper plate end42and is mounted to the primary seat structure12at a lower plate end44. The energy absorbing deformable plate40is deformable rearwards43during a rear-end collision. As the energy absorbing deformable plate40deforms rearward, the upper plate end42moves the lower headrest support section30rearward and the upper headrest support section28is thereby rotated forward.
