ABSTRACT:
A graphic input device has a tablet surface with two groups of conductor loops orthogonally arranged below an input surface. These conductors are scanned sequentially to detect an inductive coupling with a winding in a stylus or pen which is writing on the surface, the coupling resulting from sequentially energizing said loops by a carrier wave. The detected signals are then read out in terms of the coordinates of locations on the surface where writing occurs. The output of the detector is clipped at a level which leaves the true signal that identifies the location, but which eliminates false signals that occur because the stylus or pen is tipped off perpendicular when the writing occurs. The signals picked up by the pen or stylus are mixed with the carrier signals which are applied to the conductor loop. The false signals caused by a tipped stylus cancel each other during such mixing.
