ABSTRACT:
A transparent glass-ceramic comprising the following composition, expressed in terms of weight percent on an oxide basis: 45-65 SiO.sub.2, 14-28 Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, 4-13 ZnO, 0-8 MgO, 0-10 TiO.sub.2, 0-6 ZrO.sub.2, 0-8 BaO, 0-15 Cs.sub.2 O, ZnO+MgO in combination being greater than or equal to about 8, and TiO.sub.2 +ZrO.sub.2 in combination being greater than about 4.
