ABSTRACT:
A glass bulb for a cathode ray tube having a thinner wall thickness to reduce the weight while there is little possibility of causing an implosion.
A compression layer having a compressive stress .sigma..sub.KC is formed in a region of a panel portion 3 by physically strengthen the portion. The relation among the compressive stress .sigma..sub.KC, the breaking stress .sigma..sub.SG of the glass bulb and the maximum value .sigma..sub.VTmax of a tensile strength is 1<3.sigma..sub.VTmax /.sigma..sub.SG .ltoreq.1-(.sigma..sub.KC /.sigma..sub.SG).ltoreq.1.60.
