A compact gearbox/motor combination for a portable power tool has a single partition plate23closing an end of the gearbox housing24and the motor housing19. A shaft14of the motor is journalled at one end in a self-aligning bearing21supported by an end cap20of the motor. The other end of the motor shaft14is journalled in a hole41in a gear carrier29of the gearbox.
