An improved hydraulic suspension system for supporting a rotor shaft of a vertical axis wind turbine, the improvement comprising the rotor shaft having a bottom surface sitting on a bearing surface supported for angular rotation by the bearing surface and hydraulic fluid presented to a space below the bottom surface.
